Picadillo (Castilian Hash)

This Spanish-inspired dish incorporates nuts and raisins with ground meat -- a surprisingly good combination.

Serves: Serves: 6 (3/4 cup)

Ingredients:

  • 16 ounces ground 90% lean turkey or beef
  • 1 3/4 cups (one 14 1/2-ounce can) Swanson Beef Broth
  • 1 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 1/2 cups (7.5 ounces) diced raw potatoes
  • 1 cup (one 8-ounce can) Hunt's Tomato Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon (1/4 ounce) chopped almonds
  • 3 tablespoons raisins
  • 1 tablespoon Brown Sugar Twin
  • 1 tablespoon chili seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes

Directions:

  1. In a large skillet, combine meat and beef broth. Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes or until meat is browned, stirring often.
  2. Add onion, potatoes, and tomato sauce. Mix well to combine.
  3. Stir in almonds, raisins, Brown Sugar Twin, chili seasoning, garlic, and parsley flakes.
  4. Continue cooking for 10 minutes or until potatoes are tender, stirring often.
