Tacos are popular with kids and are great party food, too

Prep Time: prep 15 mins

Cooking Time: cook 25 mins

Serves: makes 4-6 servings

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1lb 2oz ( 500g) ground round
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1tsp dried oregano
  • 3 tbsp tomato paste
  • 12 crisp taco shells
  • shredded iceberg lettuce, shredded Cheddar, tomato salsa, jalapeño peppers, and sour cream, to serve

Directions:

  1. Heat the oil in a frying pan. Add the onion and garlic and cook, stirring, for 3 minutes. Add the beef and brown, about 8 minutes. Drain off fat. Stir in the chili powder and oregano, tomato paste, and 1/2 cup water. Simmer until thickened, for 10 minutes. Season.
  2. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C). Bake the shells on a sheet for 4 minutes. Spoon the meat into the shells. Serve with bowls of lettuce, Cheddar, salsa, jalapeños, and sour cream.
