Spiced Red Cabbage

Apple, cloves, and brown sugar compliment cabbage in this quick fall or winter side dish.

Serves: serves 4


  • 1 small red cabbage
  • 1 large cooking apple, peeled and sliced in segments
  • 3 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 10 whole cloves
  • salt and pepper
  • 1-2 tsp brown sugar

  1. Wash and shred the cabbage and put it in a saucepan with the apple, red wine vinegar, cloves, and salt and pepper.
  2. Sprinkle with 2-3 tablespoons of water, add the brown sugar, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes over medium-low heat.
